How to read this table
Dimensions are exterior. Interior volume is almost never published, and where it is, no two manufacturers measure it the same way. Exterior dimensions are published consistently and can be checked with a tape measure, so every derived figure here starts from them.
Exterior volume is length times width times height, converted to liters. It is the volume the box occupies in your van, which is the number that matters when you are packing a vehicle, and it is not the volume you can fill.
Cost per usable liter applies a flat 70 percent usable factor to exterior volume, then divides the midpoint of the price band by it. The flat factor is wrong in absolute terms for every individual box and right for comparison, because it is wrong in the same direction for all of them. Rated capacity is the manufacturer's published figure, and manufacturers do not all mean the same thing by it. Some quote the load the box carries, some the load the lid supports when it is at the bottom of a stack, some the load the whole coupled stack tolerates. Where the meaning is ambiguous we leave it as published and note it.
Empty cells are information. A blank means the manufacturer does not publish that figure, not that we could not be bothered. An unstated ingress rating in particular is worth noticing: a box with no IP number is not a box that failed the test, it is a box whose maker chose not to run it. See IP ratings on tool boxes.
Verification and limits
Rows marked verified came from a manufacturer or major retailer specification page that was retrieved directly. Rows marked listed come from secondary product listings and should be treated as directionally useful rather than authoritative. Price bands are broad street ranges and move constantly; they place a product in a tier and nothing more.
Specifications change with product revisions, and manufacturers frequently update dimensions without changing a model number. If a figure here does not match the box in front of you, the box in front of you is right, and we would like to know through the corrections page.
