Toolbox Insider covers one subject completely: how tools are stored, carried, protected and organized. Chests and roller cabinets. Modular stacking systems. Portable boxes and bags. We do not review drills, saws or hand tools. There are excellent publications that do. What there is much less of is a place that treats storage as the engineering subject it actually is: load paths, materials, geometry, corrosion chemistry and the arithmetic of what fits where.
What this site is for
Three kinds of question, answered properly:
- What does this specification actually mean? A 100 lb drawer slide rating, an IP54 claim,
an 18 gauge cabinet, a 1680D bag. Every one of those numbers is measured under conditions the marketing copy does not state. We state them.
- Which of these do I buy, and why? Comparisons built on normalized specifications and
explicit decision criteria, not on a ranked list with a winner chosen in advance.
- How do I make this work? Layout methods, measuring procedures, cutting methods, corrosion
control, security layering. The kind of thing that is obvious once and infuriating until then.
How the site is built
Every guide starts from the same materials: manufacturer specification sheets and installation literature, published standards from bodies like IEC, ASTM, ANSI and UL, government and industry data, and first-principles engineering analysis. Where a claim can be checked, we link to the thing that lets you check it. The full method is set out in how we analyze and the rules we hold ourselves to are in editorial standards.
What we do not claim
That constraint is deliberate and it is stated on every page that could be mistaken otherwise. A great deal of tool storage content on the internet describes testing that plainly did not happen. We would rather be narrower and be trusted. Where our analysis produces a figure, such as a derating factor or a cost per liter comparison, it is labelled as analysis and the method is published alongside it so you can disagree with it on the arithmetic.
